The Visionary Leader Awards

44 Years of Service and Commitment to the Indian Association Sharjah

Meet Mr. Nissar Thalangara, a dedicated leader and the President of the Indian Association Sharjah, the oldest and largest platform for expatriate Indians worldwide, established in 1979. With a remarkable history of 44 years, this association has continuously extended social, educational, charitable, and community services to people of Indian origin, regardless of religion, belief, caste, creed, age, or gender.

A Lifelong Commitment to Community Service

Mr. Thalangara's deep commitment to community and social service spans three decades in Sharjah. In the General Selection of Indian Association Sharjah for the Term 2023-2025, he was elected as President with an overwhelming majority. He leads a well-educated and experienced team of Office Bearers and Managing Committee Members, dedicated to the development of Indian Association Sharjah and its associated educational institutions, including Sharjah Indian School, Ghubaiba-(Girls’), Sharjah Indian School, Juwaiza-(Boys’), Gulf Rose Nursery, and Al Ibtisama Centre for People with Disabilities. Notably, Sharjah Indian School is the largest and most reputable educational institution in Sharjah owned by an expatriate Association in the Middle East, with 16,000 students enrolled.

Mr. Thalangara has previously served as the General Secretary of the Indian Association Sharjah for two terms, almost a decade ago. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in initiating and establishing a CREMATORIUM in the Emirate of Sharjah for the Indian expatriate community, a remarkable achievement in the history of IAS.

Empowering Indian Association Sharjah for a Brighter Future

Under his leadership, the Indian Association Sharjah took a central role in coordinating community relief efforts during the pandemic. They organized food donations and formed an integrated group of volunteers for distribution among the distressed and needy members of the expatriate community. Their efforts were widely recognized by the Government of Sharjah and the Department of Police, who honored the entire team with the 'Award of Appreciation' for their exemplary social and community initiatives during the pandemic.

Mr. Thalangara's leadership qualities are evident in his six consecutive years as Chairman of the Coordination Committee, representing all affiliated associations involved in the administration of IAS from 2018 through 2023. His dedication to serving the expatriate Indian community is further exemplified by his close associations and interactions with dignitaries from various fields, resulting in numerous welfare schemes and productive outcomes benefiting the Indian community in Sharjah and beyond.
